GCRC Nursing Resources

Specialized Research Nursing Staff:

  • Board Certified in Clinical Research, Acute Care, and Oncology.
  • BSN- and MSN- prepared RN's and NP with combined experience greater than 100 years!
  • Experienced laboratory technologists.
  • Twenty-four hour care seven days per week availablity.

The GCRC provides outpatient and inpatient clinical research support to both pediatric and adult research subjects. Some of the procedures that the nurses perform and their special skills, include:

  • Precise timing and management of research protocols
  • Venipuncture techniques: phlebotomy, intravenous catheters, venous access devices and central line placement.
  • Collection of special fluids to include CSF, Pleural or Peritoneal preparation of specimens including use of the centrifuge and aliquoting
  • Sample processing for DNA extraction or RNA stabilization
  • Storage, packaging and shipping of specimens
  • Acute and emergency care trained. ACLS and PALS certified
  • Acquiring and reading ECGs and rhythm strips
  • Chemotherapy administration certified
  • Complete history and physical exams performed
  • Insulin clamp studies
  • Diabetes education
  • Vaccination
  • Pulse wave analysis
  • Complex medication administration with monitoring
  • Lumber puncture
  • Allergy testing
  • Questionnaire administered
  • Extensive subject instructions
  • Flexible staff working for you

The GCRC staff is not limited to these procedures and are continually learning and extending their capabilities based on the needs of the investigators
